Pipeline Projects

Map of Big Bear Blvd Road Work between Talbot and Cienega

There is a large-scale project happening this summer on the west end of town on Big Bear Boulevard between Cienega and Talbot, by Boulder Bay. The westbound lane will be closed in sections with alternating traffic in the east bound lane. Enhancing fire protection, this major mainline improvement will replace 6,000' feet of aging pipe with a new, larger pipeline. Funded in part by U.S. Department of Agriculture grants and low-interest loans, this work is expected to last several months. The following is a list of frequently asked questions from homeowners and businesses in the project area, with answers, for your convenience:

What’s happening?

  • The BBLDWP is replacing old, undersized water mainlines and installing new water services from the new mainline to the water meter boxes. We are also installing fire hydrants to improve fire protection.

When will construction start?

  • May 13, 2021

Will I have access to my home?

  • Yes, we will do all we can to keep customers informed and maintain access to private property. If at any point work could prevent access, we attempt to coordinate in person to minimize the disruption and allow customers to prepare.

What are the hours of work?

  • 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

How deep are you digging?

  • About 5 feet

Are you going to fix/remove the paint marks?

  • No, it’s not permanent paint, it will fade away.

Will you be patching, or repaving when work is complete?

  • Roads will be returned to the same state as they were in prior to the project, or better. In most areas, where the road was paved, the full width street will get a grind and new asphalt cap, covering much of the paint.

When will it be done?

  • October 15, 2021

Will my water be turned off? How will I be notified?

  • Yes. Customers will be notified of the day the new water mainline is being connected to their service. The contractor will hang a door tag notifying the customers 48 hours before the water is shut off.
