Beware of Utility Scams

San Bernardino County Aging and Adult Services recently issued an advisory that utility scams are becoming more prevalent. Scam predators may call you to offer a reduced rate, rebate on your utility, cable or other monthly bill or claim that you need to pay the bill immediately or the utility will be shut off. This may sound okay until they ask you to purchase a prepaid debit card to make the payment or give them your bank account information so that they can transfer the rebate. Do not fall for these tricks!

The City of Big Bear Lake Department of Water will never call and demand payment over the phone. We also do not call with unsolicited rebates and do not offer reduced rates. If you receive a suspicious call, please hang up and contact us directly. We can be reached at (909) 866-5050. Our current phone hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. but we can be reached 24/7 for water related emergencies. A variety of payment options and the ability to log in to your account portal are all listed on the Pay/View My Bill page.

If you think you may be a victim of a scam, please contact San Bernardino County Adult Protective Services at 1 (877) 565‑2020 or your local police department.
