Local groundwater provides the sole drinking water supply for the Big Bear Valley. Drought conditions and a long term decline in precipitation trends have led local water agencies to investigate opportunities for supplemental supplies, which are extremely limited due to the high elevation and isolated location of the Big Bear Valley. The Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency (BBARWA), Big Bear City Community Services District (BBCCSD), Big Bear Lake Department of Water and Power (BBLDWP), and Big Bear Municipal Water District (BBMWD), collectively, the Big Bear Valley agencies, recognize that retaining recycled water in the watershed for beneficial use would significantly increase the sustainability of local water supplies.
